Planning to change the exterior of your home?
Here’s what you should consider beforehand.
Understanding the role and process of the FWHA Architecture Committee is essential. This committee is composed of four neighbors— Libby Howting, Scott Pauli, and Peter Sobol—along with our architectural expert, Ivo Rozendaal.
Their mission is to help homeowners and ensure that design choices fit well within our neighborhood. The committee meets as necessary and aims to provide timely responses to inquiries. They can offer valuable guidance before you start your construction plans, making sure you are aware of what aligns with FWHA standards. Ivo Rozendaal is available for on-site consultations and can be contacted via email to arrange a meeting.
Here’s how to work with the committee and obtain a letter for your building permit application.
Start by emailing your building plans to Ivo Rozendaal and scheduling a discussion about your project. He can point out any issues or considerations to resolve before seeking approval from your neighbors. Once your plans are finalized, present them to the immediate neighbors within FWHA. The bylaws require signatures from 3 to 5 neighbors to move forward. You can request a sign-off sheet by reaching out to the committee.
After gathering the necessary signatures, send a photo of the sign-off sheet along with your project plans to the committee members. They will arrange a meeting to review your submission.
If the project meets all requirements and receives approval, the committee will email you a letter for your city permit application. If there are concerns or if the project is not approved, a meeting will be set up with you and the committee to discuss the next steps.
If you are planning a home project that does not require a building permit you do not need to contact the FWHA Architecture committee. You can find more information about the purpose and design of the FWHA Architecture committee in your members guide, which can be accessed on the Neighborhood Documents page.
